Salty News: October Edition

Hello Spoonie!

Welcome to the October issue of the Spoons of Salt newsletter!

This month, we're doubling down on our mission to provide essential support, advocacy, and awareness for our community across Cherokee County and the North Atlanta metro area. Inside, you'll find crucial information on upcoming events and information about chronic illness to share with your community.

We are committed to ensuring every spoon you have counts.

Below is a quick recap of this month's issue. To read the entire newsletter, click here.

Are you aware of the October Slide?

A term in the chronic illness community describing a common phenomenon where symptoms worsen during the fall season, especially in October, due to factors like reduced sunlight, increased respiratory illnesses, barometric pressure changes, and less physical activity.

People with chronic conditions such as POTS, ME/CFS, chronic pain, and autoimmune disorders often report increased flares, fatigue, and brain fog during this time.

October is Dysautonomia  Awareness Month!

October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month. Dysautonomia, also known as autonomic neuropathy or autonomic dysfunction, is an umbrella term for a range of conditions resulting from a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system (ANS).

Dande Ward, NBC-HWC, a health coach specializing in chronic illness and neurodivergence, has launched a new webinar series with our community, and the first part of this four-part series is now available. If you didn't watch it live, you can view the recording here.

A Small Space, A Big Impact: Help Us Keep Our Inventory Accessible

You've read about the incredible work Spoons of Salt is doing this month, and now we invite you to be a direct part of it!

Currently, our most pressing need is to fund the storage unit that holds our inventory of free supplies. This unit isn't just a closet; it’s a crucial logistical center for providing help to individuals living with chronic invisible illnesses. We rely on it to safely store the assistive items, educational materials, and comfort kits that we distribute free of charge to our members.

Our goal is simple: raise $1200 to cover the cost of the unit for the next year.

Your donation is an investment in direct, on-the-ground support. It ensures that when a member needs a brace, a heating pad, or emergency supplies, we have them readily available.

Please consider a gift today and help us secure this essential resource.
